The Litchfield Review Contests

The Litchfield Review (www.thelitchfieldreview.com) seeks original, unpublished poems, essays and short stories for its 2006 Summer Contest. The overall winner will receive $250 and other prizes of $100 may also be awarded. All prizewinners will be published in The Litchfield Review.
Runners-up may also be published. All writers we publish will receive a free copy of the issue in which they appear. We seek to offer a forum to emerging and established writers; our only criterion for acceptance is excellence. We look for good stories beautifully told, quality poetry of substance, and creative nonfiction that lingers long in the minds of readers. Contest guidelines: Please send two copies of each submission, both labeled with name and contact information. For each 3 poems or 1 prose work, the reading fee is $10.00. Unlimited submissions for a reading fee of $15.00. Please make checks payable to The Litchfield Review .

PRIZES
First: scholarship to The Litchfield Review Writers Conference at Chase Collegiate School on
Oct. 14, 2006 and $100.00
Second: scholarship to The Litchfield Review Writers Conference at Chase Collegiate School on

Third: scholarship to The Litchfield Review Writers Conference at Chase Collegiate School on
Oct. 14, 2006 and $25.00
One-year subscriptions to The Litchfield Review will also be awarded to the first five runners-up in each category.
ENTRANTS must be 7th or 8th grade students currently enrolled in a school within the greater
Waterbury, Connecticut area. Submissions should be original, unpublished work (which may have
appeared in student periodicals) demonstrating superior quality of expression and craftsmanship.
SUBMISSIONS should not exceed three poems or 5,000 words of prose. No entrant may send more
than one submission per category.
MANUSCRIPTS should be typewritten (one side only, please) double-spaced, and accompanied by
a cover sheet with the following information: title, category, word count, author's name, address,
phone number, e-mail address (if available), and academic institution. Of this information, only
the title should appear on the manuscript itself.
PLEASE PROVIDE a stamped, self-addressed postcard for acknowledgement of receipt. We cannot
provide information on the status of a manuscript until winners are announced. Winners will receive
notification in September.

Guidelines for Submissions
Poetry, Fiction, Creative Non Fiction
-All entries must be original.
-All entries must be postmarked by July 31.
-Reading fees:
$10 per essay or short story or set of up to three poems.
You may submit as many entries as you like; please send
one check for all entries.
-Manuscripts must be typed, double spaced, on one side
of 8 ½ X 11 paper. Submit two copies of each
submission. Staple multiple pages together.
-Your name, address, phone number, email address (if
applicable) must appear on each submission. Also indicate
the word count (or line count in poetry) on the first
page.
-Manuscript length:
Poetry: 45 lines
Fiction or non fiction: 3000 words
-Manuscripts will not be returned. You may include
a SAS post card for receipt confirmation.
-Winners will be contacted within 60 days. Although
your submission may not win one of the prizes, we may
ask that your piece be published in the next issue.
Accepted writers will receive a copy of this issue.
